The Glow-worm Compact combi — £2,000 fitted
The Glow-worm Compact is the most affordable boiler we fit, at £2,000 including installation. Glow-worm describes it as their most compact and lightweight boiler to date, and the dimensions bear that out: 626mm high, 400mm wide and 270mm deep, which is a genuine kitchen-cupboard fit. It comes in 24kW and 28kW outputs, both ErP A rated, with quoted ErP efficiency of 92 per cent on the 24kW and 93 per cent on the 28kW. Sound power is given as 52 dB(A) and 54 dB(A) respectively, so it stays quiet in an open-plan kitchen. Glow-worm positions it for smaller homes, flats and rental properties with one bathroom and one to four occupants. Worth knowing at survey stage: neither output offers a rear flue.
What the Compact guarantee actually covers
Glow-worm states that up to five years of guarantee is available on the Compact, and that the five-year term applies when the boiler is installed and registered through a myREWARDS installer, their scheme for Gas Safe registered or MCS certified engineers. That is the manufacturer's own wording and it is worth reading precisely: the longer term is tied to registration, not automatic on purchase. We register every boiler we fit with the manufacturer as part of the job, and we confirm the exact term in writing on your quotation before you commit to anything. Other boilers in the Glow-worm combi range, including the Energy and the Ultimate3, carry up to ten years on the same registration basis if you would rather have longer cover from the outset.
Glow-worm and the Vaillant Group
Glow-worm has been building boilers since 1934, starting at the Derwent Foundry in Derbyshire, and the company is still based in Belper, where it manufactures several of its main ranges. In 2001 Glow-worm was acquired by the Vaillant Group, the German manufacturer that also owns the Vaillant brand. The two sit at different points in the market: Vaillant is the premium line, Glow-worm the value line. What the ownership means in practice is a shared engineering and parts operation sitting behind a cheaper boiler, and a UK spares network our engineers can draw on quickly when a component needs replacing. For a landlord or a first-time buyer weighing purchase cost against long-term parts availability, that combination is the real argument for the brand.
Is the Compact right for your property?
The Compact suits a flat or a two-bedroom house with one bathroom. Being a combi, it takes water straight off the mains and heats on demand, so there is no cylinder and no loft tank to find room for. The trade-off is the one every combi carries: run a shower and a kitchen tap together and the flow splits between them. If your home has two bathrooms, or several people needing hot water at the same time, a higher-output combi or a system boiler will serve you better, and we will price that instead. Incoming mains pressure matters as much as boiler output here, so our surveyor measures the flow rate at your property before recommending a model rather than sizing the job from the room count.
What the £2,000 includes
The £2,000 price for a Compact combi covers a straight swap: removing the old appliance, fitting the new boiler on the existing pipework, a chemical flush of the system, a magnetic filter, the flue and the commissioning paperwork. The work that adds cost is worth naming upfront rather than discovering on the day: moving the boiler to a different wall, running new gas pipe, converting a conventional system to a combi, or replacing a flue that no longer meets current siting rules. We identify all of that at survey and put it on the quotation. Every installation is notified to Gas Safe, and you receive the Building Regulations compliance certificate along with your manufacturer guarantee registration. Most like-for-like swaps are completed within a day.

£2,000 including installation for a like-for-like swap. That covers the boiler, removal of the old appliance, a system flush, a magnetic filter, the flue and all commissioning paperwork. Extra work such as relocating the boiler, new gas pipework or a conventional-to-combi conversion is priced separately and identified at survey, never added on the day.

The Compact measures 626mm high, 400mm wide and 270mm deep, and Glow-worm designs it as a cupboard fit. Whether it works in your particular cupboard depends on clearance for the flue and for servicing access, which our engineer checks at survey. Note that the Compact is not available with a rear flue in either output.
